Import your Cumulus / CumulusMX history

Imported history shows up in your charts, records and almanac as if Pro Weather had collected it all along. Importing needs Pro or an active trial on the site you import into.

Run the import

1. Copy the data folder off the machine running Cumulus, for example scp -r pi@raspberrypi:~/CumulusMX/data . Also copy Cumulus.ini (one folder up) if you can: it tells the importer your units.
2. In your site's dashboard, open Setup → Connection → Import history.
3. Under From Cumulus or CumulusMX, select the monthly log files plus Cumulus.ini. Selecting the whole data folder is fine: only files named like 202601log.txt or Jan26log.txt are read.
4. Check Log file units. They must match what Cumulus was set to log in. With Cumulus.ini selected they are filled in for you.
5. If your site has more than one station, choose the one under Import into. For hardware that uploads to your upload URL, that is the local hardware station.
6. Choose Import and keep the tab open. A multi-year archive takes a few minutes.

The files are read in your browser. Only the readings are sent. Charts and records pick up the new history within a few minutes.

Good to know

• Safe to re-run. Readings already stored, from live uploads or an earlier import, are never overwritten. If an import is interrupted, run it again.
• Every Cumulus unit setting works: °C or °F; m/s, mph, km/h or knots; mb, hPa, inHg or kPa; mm or in.
• Old log formats work. Cumulus 1 and CumulusMX 3 files (separate date and time columns, semicolons, decimal commas) are detected automatically.
• What comes across: temperature, humidity, dew point, heat index, wind chill, sea-level pressure, wind speed, gust and direction, rain and rain rate, solar radiation, UV, and indoor temperature and humidity. Cumulus logs rain as a running daily total; the importer turns it back into per-interval rain so totals come out right.
• Keep Cumulus running if you like. Point its Custom HTTP upload at your upload URL and live data continues where the import ends.
